In recent months hurricanes have caused massive destruction in the United States and the islands of the Caribbean. Fire has ripped through the drought stricken, Western United States, destroying many homes and buildings. Thousands were left homeless and the financial ruin has mounted into the billions of dollars. One violent act of nature has the potential to destroy the financial security that an individual has worked their entire life to build. How long we can survive without any income whatsoever, can be a measuring stick of our security. Perhaps each of us needs to consider, the strength of our security.
Our future security should not be measured merely, by dollars and cents. Consider these words of Jesus, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36) Regardless, of how much wealth we have created, or what we have been able to accomplish, in our life, we will all eventually die and stand before God. “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27) Therefore, although it is important to prepare for the financial future of ourselves and our family, it is also critically important that we prepare for the future security of our soul.
In the book of Romans, the Bible tells us that each of us has sinned. “…There is none righteous, no, not one:” (Romans 3:10) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23) Furthermore, the book of Romans informs us that, there is a punishment for our sins. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) Although, we deserve to be punished for our sins, we can obtain eternal life in heaven with God, merely by calling on Jesus Christ. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) If you died today, are you 100% sure, you would go to heaven? If not say the following prayer.
Father God, I am a sinner, and I deserve to be punished for my sins. Forgive me from all sin, and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. From this day forward, I want your Son Jesus Christ to live in my heart and be the Lord of my life. I believe that you raised him from the dead and accept the gift of eternal life. Amen.
